about jacci lastra
Jacci, a passionate advocate for justice, brings a unique perspective to the Appeals department at Grand Canyon Law Group. With a diverse background in both the public and private sectors, she has dedicated her career to making a positive impact on the criminal-justice system.
Jacci’s journey began while studying English at Arizona State University, where she discovered her calling while teaching composition courses to inmates in Arizona and New Mexico. As a founding member of the Prison Education Awareness Club (PEAC), she witnessed firsthand the transformative power of education in reducing recidivism rates. Her commitment to this cause was further demonstrated through her efforts in organizing book drives for children of incarcerated individuals and conferences for former inmates.
Armed with a paralegal certificate and an unwavering determination, Jacci embarked on a challenging yet immensely fulfilling role with the Capital Habeas Unit of the Federal Public Defender’s Office. There, she assisted on habeas actions for death row inmates across the United States, providing invaluable support to those navigating complex legal battles. This experience honed her skills in client service and reinforced her dedication to fighting for justice.
As a fourth-generation Phoenician, Jacci’s deep roots in Arizona fuel her commitment to delivering exceptional legal services to her community. When she’s not advocating for her clients, Jacci finds solace in the company of her close-knit extended family and indulges in her love for reading and creating art.
